Both at Blake in an academic setting and in my personal life outside of school, I have had many experiences in small groups and with small group communication. For our study of small group communication in this class, we were tasked with responding two on of two prompts, the one I chose being:
As you look ahead to college, what small group communication best practices should college students enact? Craft this as recommendations and analysis that would be shared with first year college students, offered from student perspectives.
I decided to write an essay as a reccomendation to college students based on my experiences with small groups. By using sources from institutions like the University of Minnesota and the University of Pittsburgh, I combined my personal experiences with proven research in effective small group communication to problem shoot some sample scenarios. The finished essay is a witty and relatable yet cohesive document that outlines some best practices for my future peers.
An important and ever relevant topic, I feel as if small group communication skills are often overlooked. A frequent victim of ineffective small groups, I greatly enjoyed the ability to relate my poor experiences to others in hopes to prevent their suffering. An extremely helpful tool, I really wanted to express the usefulness of small group roles and the stages of small group communication. From not just this essay, but my experience with small groups in this class, I have gained a new approach to crafting a plan for effective communication.
